Notre Dame Key Workers Social Story

March 20, 2020

As we know this is a very worrying time for everyone and for you as a student at Notre Dame. None of us have experienced anything like this before and even adults are worrying a little bit about the whole situation, but that is okay. None of us like it when we don’t have all of the information that we need and when things are out of our control.

Some of you will still be going into school after they close on Friday, while others of you will not. For those of you who will be going into school it is really important that you understand why this is happening. Your parents or carers are really important people and they have been identified as key workers. This means that they are really important in helping keep the country going and fighting the Coronavirus.

Key workers are normal people who are willing to go to work to fight the virus. Not just to get rid of it, but to make sure that your life goes back to normal as quickly as possible and to make sure that you can get back to school and get a full education.Everyone wants you to have the best childhood you possibly can and these people are heroes and you should be very proud of them if they are one of the key workers or are still going to work. Some of them might have to work long shifts and might be tired and you might not see them as much, but that is okay, they still love you and they still care about you.

When they go to work they are helping other people and to do this they also want to keep you safe and to do this the Government and the Council have decided that the safest place for you to be is a school. At this moment in time it is okay to feel anxious, stressed and worried as we do not know the full plan or timescale of this yet.Even staff in school are feeling this way and they also have children and have been named as key workers. It is okay to feel like this, it is natural, but things will seem normal after a few days or weeks and we will work this all out.

If you are not in school after Friday, it does not mean that your parents or careers are not important, it means that they are at home and keeping you safe. The Government has told us to stay at home if we can to stop the spread of the virus, so this is what people are doing.

You can help by not going out as much and socialise with friends and family and to continue to wash your hands as much as possible to keep everyone in your house safe.

We keep getting updates from the Government each day and they have given us lots of advice about what is happening and what is going to happen over the next few weeks.

As a school we are all still here to support you and you can keep up to date with everything through the school website (www.notredameliverpool.com) and the school twitter account @NDEvertonValley.
