British Red Cross - First Aid

For the last three Fridays, KS3 (years 7, 8 and 9) have been meeting in Resonate to complete a first aid qualification with Red Cross. Our students have really enjoyed the opportunity to get hands on, practising and learning the skills that could save a person’s life.

Thanks to Carmel Parr and Derrick Otieno Kilori from the Youth Education Team of the British Red Cross, who taught the course, over 400 of our students have gained confidence in how to save lives!

Notre Dame is very greatly to the British Red Cross, who operates this fully-funded workshops for 10 to 19-year-olds. It is designed to help young people actively learn first aid skills.

The tailored first aid workshop helped students assess and manage risks and make informed decisions and how to support others.

Co-ordinator of PSHCE at Notre Dame, Mr Campbell, said ‘First aid is a life skill that everyone can and should learn. Our students have gained so much from these sessions in terms of developing communication skills; team building; self-confidence and how to react in what can be a stressful situation’.
