Carols by Candlelight 2018

Last night our College was delighted to host yet another incredibly successful 'Carols by Candlelight'. This annual event has grown in popularity throughout the years and for many this officially marks the beginning of the Christmas break. This was a special event as this year we are also celebrating our 150th anniversary as a Notre Dame school in this area of Liverpool. The talent of our College was showcased by the College Chamber Choir, the Young Singers Choir, (from years 7 and 8), the Notre Dame Orchestra and the staff choir. Nugent Care Collection

Many thanks to all the pupils and staff who donated so generously to our Nugent collection this year. As part of our preparations for Christmas and continuing our links with Nugent (which is a local registered charity, caring, educating and protecting vulnerable children, young people and adults through our school, care homes, community and social work services) we hosted a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’. The idea of a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ is to give something rather than take from the calendar. Luxury Hamper Items, winter woollies and toiletries were dropped off this week by the Chaplaincy Team, our 1804 Head Boy and Head Girl. Notre Dame Catholic College are delighted to support this local

Year 8 History Trip to Liverpool University

During our recent trip to the University of Liverpool, we took part in many lessons/ activities such as learning about the theory of evolution. In the evolution lesson we learnt about the evolution of humans, from when they were apes to modern day humans, and the evolution of animals. We studied human skulls (replicas obviously) and saw they looked like apes with flat faces, fleshy noses, similar sized teeth to modern teeth and carved noses. The trip was fun and all the PHD students were excellent teachers. Year 8 student Yesterday, Mr Bond, accompanied by 20 students visited the heath and sciences building of the University of Liverpool where we had the opportunity to study a diverse range

'5 in a Row' winners

Congratulations to this weeks '5 in a row' December attendance challenge winners!. Remember to qualify you need 100% attendance and no lates for the previous week. Meet these targets and you may be randomly selected to pick a prize during your assembly. Well done everyone! Evidence shows the true impact of children and young people missing school: • 10 minutes late to school every day equates to 32 hours a year of lost education • 1 day a week of school missed equates to 2 months a year of lost education • Half a day a week missed throughout school life equates to one full year of lost education

Year 7 'Bikeability'

A group of Year 7 students braved the elements this week, taking a level 3 'bikeability' course. The students took their bikes out onto the streets of Liverpool and learnt how to manoeuvre their bikes around some difficult junctions. All arrived back to school safely and thoroughly enjoyed the course. Well done!
