Post 14 and 16 Careers Event

On Wednesday 28th February we held our first Post 14 & 16 careers event for students in years 8-11. Many of our local education providers attended to give our students information about their college courses for 14-16 year olds and 16+ students. These included Hugh Baird College, UTC Life Sciences, Carmel College, LIPA Sixth Form. Students who wanted to know more about training and apprenticeship routes after year 11 were able to speak to various apprenticeship providers which included the Liverpool Apprenticeship HUB and TPM . In addition, year 10 and 11 students were able to speak to our sixth form teachers about the range of courses on offer at Notre Dame. Our visitors were very impressed

Terriers Performance 2018

Year 7 enjoyed a hard-hitting performance which highlighted issues such as gun and gang crime that are faced by young people. The ‘Terriers’ play, written by Maurice Bessman, is a thought-provoking and moving play which deals with problems like gang peer pressure, grooming and manipulation. The play involves Aldo, who is bright, witty, and a gifted sportsman. His family has high hopes for him, but he's having a tough time trying to break away from his mates who want him to be in his local gang, The Terriers. Not that he's too scared to join, but they are involved in a tit for tat gang war with a crew just across the avenue called The DH Crew. Things are getting very heavy and a DH Crew kid i

History Department Visit to the Terracotta Warriors Exhibit

The History Department arranged a visit to the Terracotta Warriors Exhibition at the World Museum. Here Mia Cowley, a Year 12 student recounts her experience of the day. “On the 21st February, 30 selected students from years 7-13 including members of the Student Council, visited the Terracotta Warriors exhibition, we were accompanied by Miss Cavanagh, Mrs Brennan, Miss Wishart and Mr Bond. After a rather long walk led by Mr Bond (!), we arrived at the museum. As there were so many of us we got a private screening of the introduction video which shows China through the ages. We then entered the exhibit and met our first Terracotta Warrior, we were quite shocked by how big they were! Duri

Merseyside Hate Crime Awareness Week – Daisy UK

Notre Dame Catholic College welcomed a special guest into the college during 'Merseyside Hate Crime Awareness Week'. Dave Kelly, the founder of ‘Daisy UK’, shared his own experiences of the crime and his feelings of isolation from society due to his loss of sight as a result of a rare eye disease. The charity works to break down barriers within society through the mediums of sport, education and employment. Hate Crime Awareness Week is an important time to remind our students what constitutes a hate crime and what support is available. At Notre Dame we encourage our students to report and stand-up to any forms of hate crime in or outside of college. EndFragment

First World War centenary battlefield tour

The trip to Belgium was a brilliant opportunity for me as a student. It not only developed my knowledge of the First World War but it also developed my understanding of the impact it had on so many lives. It is so easy to read figures about the number of deaths but being able to see all the graves in front of me helped me realise how many people had died. On the second evening of the trip, myself and Conor had the opportunity to represent the school in the laying of a wreath as part of the last post ceremony at the Menin gate. To be part of such an important ceremony like that, at the Menin Gate, was an experience of a lifetime for me. Throughout the trip we visit a number of battlefields an
