Mathematics

Our maths curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential mathematical knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces students to the best that has been thought and said; and helps engender an appreciation of human imagination, creativity and achievement.

Mr I Cameron

Director of Mathematics

Our Mathematics curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential mathematical skills and knowledge that they need to be educated citizens and to solve problems with confidence, fluency and curiosity. It introduces students to the best that has been thought and said; and helps engender an appreciation of the contribution mathematics has made to humanity.

It has been carefully designed and delivered to ensure:

  • Pupils develop a natural curiosity around the applications of mathematics, as well as the ability to apply their knowledge to understand something they previously did not know. (OPENING MINDS to new knowledge)
  • Pupils develop a confidence that ignites a passion and insatiable thirst to learn and understand. (OPENING HEARTS through inspiration)
  • Pupils become critical thinkers and be aware of how their mathematical skillset can allow them to innovate and solve problems. (OPENING MINDS to deeper understanding)
  • Pupils leave with a depth of understanding that will empower them to move into adult life successfully. (OPENING DOORS through the application of developing skills)

Year 7, 8 and 9 Curriculum Content

Our Key stage 3 curriculum offer is designed and sequenced to allow our students to learn best and succeed within maths. We follow a continuous 5-year scheme of learning focussed on preparing pupils for GCSE exams in year 11, albeit one that still separates into KS3 and KS4. It allows for seamless transition across different content with frequent opportunity for the embedding on knowledge retrieval throughout the curriculum.

Year 10 and 11 Curriculum Content

When students enter KS4 they are introduced to the GCSE content that will link into everything covered in KS3. The scheme of learning splits into fluency, developing skills and problem solving which will enable all students to have a deeper understanding of the topic and apply their knowledge in a wider variety of questions.
