Farewell Year 11!

Our Year 11 students celebrated their time and achievements with us today during their Leavers’ Assembly.

Our Year 11 students gathered in the school’s Dorothy Stang Theatre this morning for one final time as a year group for a celebratory assembly to acknowledge their time and achievements during the last 5 years at Notre Dame Catholic College. The Assembly was led by their Head of Year, Mrs Smith and their Assistant Head of Year, Miss Lee.

School Chaplain, Miss Wall, started proceedings with a reflection of what their time with us all at Notre Dame has meant and wishing them well going forward as they continue to grow and achieve in life and in their faith.

This was followed by a reading of Angie Flores’ ‘Faith and Courage in Life’ by Year 11 Form Tutor, Miss Campbell and some words from our Head Teacher, Mr Duffy. Mr Duffy started by sharing some memories of significant events from the year our current Year 11 cohort joined us, including the appointment of Donald Trump, the beginning of Brexit and he reflected on the challenges faced by all during the 2 years of the Covid 19 pandemic. He spoke of how privileged he feels to have gotten to know each student and spoke of his hopes that the school values of Charity, Courtesy, Courage and Confidence will continue to shape their lives going forward as they enter Notre Dame’s Sixth Form or go on to pastures new. Mr Duffy also thanked the staff for their dedication and support they’ve given to help each student to get where they are today.

Each Year 11 form teacher was then invited up to share some words to their class, with many sharing fond memories, well wishes and thanks to their students. Students were then treated to a musical performance by year 11 students CJ and Joely, who sang a rendition of ‘I Still Believe’ from the musical Miss Saigon and a second performance by Year 11 student, Cristian, playing guitar and Year 10 student, Joel, on vocals singing ‘Blackbird’ by The Beatles.

A final reflection from Mrs Smith closed the proceedings, where she spoke of her own fond memories and experiences as Head of Year and thanked all of the staff for their support. Finally, students were then treated to a video compilation featuring memories of their time over the past 5 years which was kindly put together by Miss Lee.

Students gathered outside to sign shirts and share photos following their assembly. They are now officially on exam leave and will only be required to attend school for revision sessions and for their final exams. We are so proud of our students and look forward to welcoming them all back on results day during the summer to celebrate with them once again!

Year 11 students, we wish you all the best and leave you with our Foundress, St Julie’s words of wisdom:

“God is good. Trust in God’s goodness, do small things with great love, give of your best and you will change the world for good.”
