Art & Design

"Enjoy and achieve well - within the learning's of Art"

Ms C Kenny (Head of Department for Art)

Mrs L Powell (Teacher of Art & Design)

The aim of developing a community, which recognises and respects the value of every individual, is an important aspect of the Art and Design department.

Every pupil’s visual interpretation, however divergent the outcomes, are all valid and worthwhile. We hope to instil in all the pupils a feeling of worth in what they and others create. This covers work produced by themselves, their class, their year, other years, their culture, other cultures and times.

We hope that they will gain pleasure and knowledge from seeing their own work and that of others displayed in the Art and Design Rooms and around the building. In being able to see how others have responded to a particular theme or problem can widen their horizons and develop a more tolerant viewpoint. They may also be able to relate, to what is produced in one subject area can be very relevant to other subject areas.

Within the work produced, displays and discussion we hope to develop in the pupils an independence of thought and a sense of personal awareness and responsibility by engendering a sense of personal integrity.
