There is, in addition, a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and performance workshops that we have on offer here at Notre Dame Catholic College. Please see our Performing Arts section for further information. Students also have the opportunity to study for a GCSE in Performing Arts, beginning in Year 9.

All students studying GCSE Drama receive extra tuition to support their individual performing skills. These lessons are provided by the college, free of charge when students opt to study Drama at GCSE or BTEC.   DRAMA SCHEMES OF LEARNING

The Scheme of Learning for KS3 Drama draws its content from a variety of sources. The main focus derives principally from the cross-curricular themes found within the college’s creative curriculum. Drama is seen as being a very important tool in underpinning learning in other subjects of the curriculum.

The department has developed learning and teaching methodology that acknowledges a wide range of preferred learning styles for our students. As part of our Performing Arts College status, a research project is currently underway to assess how musical skills can assist individual student development across the whole gamut of learning. The study focuses on those individuals receiving extra music tuition and gauges their progress across all subject areas, compared to students in similar ability settings, who do not receive extra music tuition.

The Drama curriculum and methodology is designed to underpin the Performing Arts overall mission statement:

  DISCOVERY through ACTION LEARNING
